The road to CARIFESTA
It is especially significant that Canada, the world leader in successful diversity and multiculturalism has been the first country to be invited to send a diaspora contingent to CARIFESTA.
CARIFESTA is the largest regional cultural festival in the Caribbean region, and is also the only one which is intergovernmental. It is hosted on an itinerant basis in one of the Caribbean countries.
The very nature of this C-CAN project effectively demonstrates that the vitality of Canadian society finds its origin in the cultural and ethnic diversity of the people who make Canada their home.
C-CAN’s current mission in CARIFESTA is aimed at opening up regional, national and international opportunities to present, promote and effectively market the artistic works of Ontario’s artists and artistic organizations of Caribbean heritage with potential Canada-wide impact.
In recognition of this Canadian-Caribbean initiative, C-CAN’s participation in CARIFESTA XIII represents a joint international celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary as a nation, as well as the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Toronto Carnival, a gift to Canada from its Caribbean diaspora on the occasion of Canada’s centenary commemoration in 1967.
